A family Easter holiday

Make the most of the school holidays to explore destinations that are perfect for children. From Iberia’s new routes, such as Orlando, to capital cities such as London, Copenhagen and Athens, which are adventure playgrounds for curious kids. You can also discover Spanish regions such as Granada, which is perfect for both a historical tour and a visit to the Sierra Nevada mountains, or Almería, which offers a wide variety of fun activities for children.

  1. 1 London

The English capital, which you can fly to from 6,500 Avios per journey, is another great destination to enjoy with children. A must-visit in the city is the Natural History Museum, where dinosaur lovers can see a diplodocus skeleton (nicknamed Dippy) and even camp next to it! The Dino Snores initiative allows families with children aged 7 to 11 to make a reservation and spend the night at the museum, enjoying a night-time tour and educational activities, as well as breakfast before the doors open the next morning. Meanwhile, young wizards can embark on a magical journey into the world of Harry Potter at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. Here they will find everything from original film sets (with some of the packages it is possible to enjoy dinner or breakfast in the Great Hall) to the impressive creatures and costumes that appeared in the productions and a large gift shop.

  2. 2 Orlando

Iberia has recently launched a direct route between Madrid and Orlando, which can be accessed from 16,000 Avios per journey. Without a doubt, the most attractive feature of this destination is its concentration of theme parks, led by Walt Disney World® Resort, a complex that includes four main parks and two water parks, as well as 25 themed hotels. Meanwhile, Universal Orlando Resort has two more theme parks, plus one water park, one entertainment complex, eight hotels and immersive areas themed around Harry Potter, The Simpsons, E.T. and Men in Black, offering magical experiences for young children and a nostalgic journey for older visitors. Finally, LEGOLAND® Florida Resort is perfect for children who love the building bricks and is designed for families with children up to 12 years old.

  3. 3 Athens

Athens is the perfect destination for history lovers. You can fly to the Greek capital from 9,500 Avios per journey and enjoy a few days discovering the Acropolis, which offers special tours for families (and you can even collect Avios if you book through the Iberia Club Store). The adjoining Acropolis Museum, home to one of the world’s most significant archaeological collections, brings ancient history to life for children through interactive models, immersive projections and its exceptional design. In addition, the Athenian neighbourhood of Plaka, right at the foot of the Acropolis, is a dreamlike setting for outdoor strolls, being famous for its concentration of ice-cream parlours, such as the famous Le Greche, which will delight the whole family.

  4. 4 Copenhague

Another European capital with plenty of fun for children is Copenhagen, which you can fly to from 9,500 Avios per journey. Denmark is home to the original LEGOLAND® Billund Resort, built near the first LEGO factory and about a three-hour drive from the Danish capital. It has more than 45 attractions designed exclusively for children. Budding scientists will also find a space to discover at Experimentarium, a science and technology museum designed to bring experiments to the whole family. Exhibits include tours of the human body, models with toy balls that explain the flow of global trade and light mazes. In the words of staff member Christian Juul Yssing, “Experimentarium is full of fun and interactive science. Curiosity and play are the order of the day here. You don’t need to know Danish or English. Just be prepared to spend hours exploring our three indoor floors and spectacular rooftop terrace.” Finally, the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, just over an hour from Copenhagen, is the gateway to the fantasy world of one of the most famous storytellers in world literature. Ville Vau is a section of the experience designed for younger children, where they can dress up in costumes from the stories and immerse themselves in interactive spaces.

  5. 5 Granada

You can fly to Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport from Madrid from 3,500 Avios per journey. In Granada, the monumental Alhambra awaits (it is advisable to buy tickets in advance), which is accessible to children thanks to its combination of indoor and outdoor spaces. The visit is rounded off with an unforgettable stroll through the Albaicín, which is transformed during Easter week with some of the most impressive processions and floats in Spain. For sports lovers, Sierra Nevada is perfect for enjoying during the holidays: the ski season usually lasts until the end of April and there are different areas reserved exclusively for children, such as Shark Fun Trail, decorated with children’s motifs, or the Alpine Garden for those taking their first steps in the snow.

  6. 6 Almería

Almería, available from 3,500 Avios per journey flying from Madrid, is home to the Tabernas Desert, with a real Wild West town, the setting for the best spaghetti westerns, where films such as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) were shot. Here you can visit parks such as Western Leone or Fort Bravo Texas Hollywood, which still preserve their original film sets. For the little ones, however, the top choice is Minihollywood Oasys, which features live cowboy shows. Another fantastic family-friendly activity is joining one of the experiences offered by Astronomía Cabo de Gata, which takes full advantage of the Almería coast’s exceptional conditions for stargazing. These include night-time guided walks and telescope observation sessions under the stars.
