Discover Iberia’s Elite Points

If you’re an Iberia Club cardholder, with every flight you take you’ll earn not only Avios but also Elite Points. And starting in 2025, your purchases with Iberia partner brands will also help you grow your Iberia Club balance.

Here we explain what Elite Points are, how you can earn them, and what their benefits are.

What are Elite Points and what are they for?

Elite Points are the Iberia Club programme’s way of rewarding member loyalty. You can accumulate them to improve or maintain the tier level of your Iberia Club card, whether it is Plata, Oro, Platino, Platino Prime (our new level), Infinita o Infinita Prime.

How do you earn them?

Elite Points are earned with your flights and purchases.

When you travel, you’ll earn 1 Elite Point for every euro spent on your flights, both on the net cost of the ticket and on add-ons, such as additional baggage or seat selection, among others, including those purchased after buying your ticket (excluding taxes and fees). In addition, you’ll earn extra Elite Points when booking Optima, Comfort, or Flexible fares, whether in Business, Premium Economy, or Economy. The amount of extra Elite Points credited to your account will depend on whether your flight is short/medium or long-haul. You can check the full table at the bottom of this page to calculate how many extra Elite Points you’ll earn for each fare and journey.

This table of conversion applies to flights with Iberia (IB), Iberia Express (I2), Vueling (VY) codes and operated by the Iberia Group. For flights with partner airlines in the programme, such as American Airlines, you’ll earn 1 Elite Point for every euro spent on the net cost of the ticket (again excluding taxes and fees). For British Airways (BA) flights, you can also earn Elite Points when purchasing additional baggage, seat selection, and cabin upgrades, including add-ons purchased after the original ticket purchase. Likewise, you’ll have the opportunity to earn Elite Points when flying in First Class, Business, or Premium Economy (depending on distance flown).

For the oneworld alliance airlines, Elite Points are not based on money spent but rather on distance flown, booking class, and travel cabin. You can also check the table in the last section of this page.

Starting in 2025, you can also earn Elite Points with purchases from more than 90 Iberia Club partner brands: for every 10 Avios you earn with them, 1 Elite Point will be credited to your account. Up to 30% of the Elite Points required to reach the next level may come from purchases with these 90+ partner companies. You can view all partner brands where you can earn Elite Points through this link or in the “Earn more Avios” section at the top of your screen.

Iberia Club Card

Just for signing up to the Iberia Club Programme you will get your Classic Card, which you can use online through the app (or you can download it). The more you fly or shop, the more Elite Points you’ll accumulate, and within a year you will be able to upgrade your Iberia Club Card level. For instance, to get the Iberia Club Plata Card, you must take at least 20* flights in an Iberia Club year (from 1 April to 31 March of the following year) or earn 3,200 Elite Points. You would have to do the same the following year to be able to renew your Iberia Club Plata Card. If you accumulate 7,500 Elite Points or take 40 flights, you will reach Oro level. You can see all the benefits associated with each type of card here, including the Infinita and Infinita Prime lifetime Cards.

What’s the difference between Elite Points and Avios?

The main differences lie in how they can be used to give you benefits. Elite Points are Iberia’s way of rewarding your loyalty: they allow you to maintain or upgrade your Iberia Club Card level and unlock exclusive benefits at each tier. Elite Points are counted from April 1 of the current year until March 31 of the following year, and unlike Avios, they cannot be purchased, gifted, or transferred.

Avios, on the other hand, are the currency of the Iberia Club program. You can use them to pay for your next ticket on Iberia, British Airways, and other oneworld partner airlines, as well as for extras such as cabin upgrades (and, of course, give them away or share them with whoever you want).

You can check your accumulated Avios and Elite Points in the My Iberia Club section of your personal member area.

Do Elite Points expire?

Yes. Elite Points are only accumulated between April 1 of the current year and March 31 of the following year. This way, you can unlock the next level of your Iberia Club Card.
